Chelsea FC vs. Arsenal FC
In the Premier League some cancelled and postponed matches will be made up during the week. Among them are also some top matches such as the match between Liverpool and Manchester United (go to Liverpool – Man United betting tips) or the London duel Chelsea vs Arsenal. For both teams from the capital, the Champions League qualification is still at stake, for which the Blues, however, have the clearly better starting position. The Gunners, on the other hand, need to stretch themselves after their recent slump in form and get some points. Kick-off is on Wednesday at 20:45 at Stamford Bridge.
Our prediction for this match can be found in the following Chelsea vs Arsenal tip. We go into more detail on whether we see the hosts as the favourites or whether we have a different idea. On paper, however, the roles are at least somewhat clearly distributed. Chelsea are in good form and currently occupy a relatively safe third place. 62 points mean they are a full eight points ahead of fifth place, and the Blues have also played two games less. Nevertheless, they are unlikely to be in the championship race. Arsenal, on the other hand, are still fiercely fighting for fourth place, which is currently three points away. But the Gunners are also still one game down on their rivals.

Chelsea form & balance check
A lot of things have actually been going right for Chelsea in recent weeks, yet they will not be happy in London at the moment. Despite nine wins from the last twelve competitive games, the Blues have missed out on two titles in this period. First, they lost the League Cup final on penalties against Liverpool, followed by a bitter Champions League exit against Real Madrid. After losing 3-1 in the first leg, the defending champions were actually on course in the second leg with a 3-0 lead, but in the end they had to pull out with a 3-2 win on aggregate. At the weekend, however, Thomas Tuchel’s team managed to redeem themselves somewhat by defeating Crystal Palace 2-0 to reach the final of the F.A. Cup. So at least one title is still possible this season.
Werner on the rise
Even though the team has had to cope with various disappointments recently, one player is currently on the up. Timo Werner is finally being allowed to play regularly and is repaying the trust in scorer points. The attacker, who arrived from Leipzig for more than 50 million euros before the season, has scored five goals in the last three games and Tuchel has been extremely positive about his protégé. Moreover, regardless of their CL elimination, the Blues have won all three of those games, responding to two previous emphatic defeats to Brentford and Real.
Chelsea facts & analysis
– 3rd place in the Premier League, 62 points.
– Most recent 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the F.A. Cup.
– 3 wins in a row
Arsenal form & balance check
Arsenal FC are currently visibly obstructing their Champions League participation with a small results crisis. After a disastrous start to the season, Mikel Arteta’s side had actually made a dream come true and were extremely difficult to beat for a long time, fourth place seemed only a matter of time. Just a few weeks ago, the Gunners had won five league games in a row, but then came the crash. Starting with the defeat against Liverpool, Arsenal lost four of their last five games, so that Tottenham, their biggest nemesis, took over pole position for fourth place.
What else is in it for Arsenal?
The Gunners have recently suffered three painful defeats in a row. Against Crystal Palace, Brighton and Southampton, they should have scored more than zero. Arsenal have only managed one goal in this period and their little form crisis is taking on ever greater proportions. They now face another mammoth task in Chelsea, followed by Manchester United and West Ham. Improvement is therefore not to be expected for the time being, but if Arsenal want to return to the CL, they simply have to beat such opponents as well.
Arsenal facts & analysis
– 6th place in the Premier League, 54 points
– Last lost 0:1 at Southampton
– 3rd consecutive defeat, 4th from last 5 games
Predicted line-up – last updated 19 April 2022
Thomas Tuchel is likely to again rely on his new found attacking trio of Mount, Havertz and Werner. Kante and Jorginho will probably operate behind them, Kovacic was substituted against Crystal Palace after less than half an hour. Azpilicueta and Loftus-Cheek are other starting options. For the Gunners, Thomas, Tomiyasu, Tierney and probably Lacazette are out. This almost makes the team line up on its own, with only Pepe and Smith Rowe serious alternatives.
