AS Roma vs. Atalanta BC
Before both AS Roma and Atalanta Bergamo start the knockout stages of the Conference and Europa League respectively in the coming week, there is first the direct clash in the domestic Serie A at the weekend. The match between the two neighbours in the table (6th and 5th) will kick off on Saturday at 18:00.
A few months ago, Atalanta would certainly have been favourites for this match. However, after the results of the last few weeks, the situation now looks different. While Atalanta finally managed to win again last weekend against Sampdoria (4:0) after five games without a win, Roma remained unbeaten for the sixth time in a row on the last matchday in Spezia (1:0 away win), which is by far the longest series of the season.
Find out whether we now trust the hosts to win their seventh game without defeat and what other predictions we would make on this exciting encounter in our Rome vs Atalanta betting tip.

Rome Form & Balance Check
The hosts are currently unbeaten in six games (3U, 3S) and while they have certainly been lucky in that period, they have also shown morale and staying power. In the 2-2 draw at Sassuolo, Bryan Cristante scored the equaliser only in the 90th minute. In the subsequent 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona, José Mourinho’s eleven were initially even 2-0 down, but managed to earn a 2-2 with goals in the 65th and 84th minutes.
Last weekend in Spezia, Roma finally scored a very late goal for the third time in a row. Tammy Abraham’s penalty goal in the 9th minute of stoppage time gave them a narrow 1-0 away win in the end.
No home win against Atalanta again?
Ideally, the next three points should come on Saturday. However, a look at the statistics shows that home games against Atalanta have been anything but a pleasure in recent years. Roma’s last home win against the team from Bergamo came in 2014 (3:1). Since then, Atalanta have taken three points four times.
Three encounters have not found a winner, including the last one in April 2021 (1-1). After six games without defeat, now would be a perfect time to finally put an end to that drought.
Rome facts & analysis
– 44 points from 27 games
– Most recent 1-0 win at Spezia
– None of last 7 home games won against Atalanta
– Unbeaten in 6 games (3S, 3U)
Atalanta Form & Balance Check
Atalanta Bergamo haven’t really been going well – in terms of results – so far in 2022, although this was already apparent at the end of 2021. After six consecutive victories (a total of ten games unbeaten), Gian Piero Gasperini’s team could only take one point from the last two games before the turn of the year (1:4 vs. AS Roma, 0:0 vs. Genoa).
This was followed by a 2-6 away win at Udinese, before Atalanta played 0-0 first against Inter Milan and then at Lazio Roma. In February, too, the form curve pointed downwards in view of the unexpected defeats against Cagliari (1:2) and Florence (0:1). In between, there was a 1-1 draw against Juventus Torino.
The rock in the surf is missing
Although the programme has been really tough these weeks, the haul of three points from five games is far from satisfactory for the ambitious club. One of the main reasons for the disappointing last few weeks will be the absence of top scorer Duvan Zapata, who has been missing since the end of 2021 due to injury. His physical presence is sorely missed in the Nerazzurri’s offensive game.
However, the 4-0 home win against Sampdoria Genoa might have finally achieved a liberating blow on the last matchday. In addition to striker Pasalic (6th), attacking midfielder Teun Koopmeiners (29th, 61st) played a major role in his team’s victory with his two goals. It was Atalanta’s first home win since beating Venezia 4-0 on 30 November 2021.
Atalanta facts & analysis
– 47 points from 26 games.
– Last win 4:0 against Sampdoria
– Won only 2 of last 9 games
– Only 3 goals conceded in last 6 matches
Predicted line-up – last update on 3 March 2022
Roma still have to do without Leonardo Spinazzola (Achilles tendon tear). Sergio Oliviera (heel problems) and Felix Afena-Gyan (hip contusion) have also been out for a short time. Compared to the 1-0 win at Spezia, however, the starting eleven could remain unchanged.
Atalanta will have to do without Rafael Toloi, who is suspended with a yellow card. On the other hand, Merih Demiral, who was suspended last time, is back, so there could be a 1:1 swap. In addition, Duvan Zapata (torn muscle fibre), the most important man in the attack, is absent. Either Mario Pasalic or the recovered Luis Muriel could play up front again.
