Australian Open today – Matches today 23.01.

The Australian Open 2022 concludes its first week in the main draw this coming Sunday. In concrete terms, this means that the first three rounds have been played in full and the top 16 players have been found!

If we look at the tournament from the German point of view, we could have hoped for a bit more. In the women’s singles, no one made it past the first round, and in the men’s singles, Alexander Zverev was the only one left in the third round.

Now, in the round of 16, they are slowly beginning, the duels in which there are actually no clear favourites. The hot title contenders are now getting opponents who will really give them a run for their money.

Of course, this also applies to Germany’s tournament hopefuls, who have so far defeated their fairly easy opponents without losing a set. How is the Olympic champion doing, will he enter the quarter-finals without any problems?

This and other selected top matches from the round of the best 1 will of course be analysed again on wettfreunde.net. Who will beat whom, how many sets will we see? Ale tips and odds are now available in the overview!

Australian Open 2022 – 23.01. Preview of Day 7

In the men’s singles, the early Sunday starts with an iconic performance as Rafael Nadal looks to reach the quarter-finals! He is the clear favourite against Adrian Mannarino. The duel is particularly interesting because the winner could meet Alexander Zverev!

Exactly who has to take to the court at 05:00 and has drawn a tough nut in his round of 16 match. Denis Shapovalov, the number 14 in the world and an excellent server, will demand everything from him despite being the underdog.

How much strength did Matteo Berrettini’s 3:2 against Carlos Alcaraz take? We will see when he meets Pablo Carreno Busta a little later in the morning in Germany and has to confirm his role as favourite.

The women’s competition is no less exciting. Victoria Azarenka, a favourite for the title, will face French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in her match and is the bookmaker’s favourite.

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty also has to reach the quarter-finals. She has caught a bit of a surprise with Amanda Anisimova, and those are ever known to be the most dangerous.

Australian Open today broadcast: Where are the matches on 23.01.?

Those who want to get up early from Saturday to Sunday can join the experts from the Eurosport team from 04:00. Whether it’s Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev or Ashleigh Barty, no serve or subsequent winner’s interview will be missed here.

Australian Open today 23.01: Alexander Zverev – Denis Shapovalov (05:00 h)

All German tennis fans are trembling and anxious with Alexander Zverev, who finally wants to win his first Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne. So far, he has shown himself to be on the safe side, but he still has potential for improvement.

He defeated Daniel Altmaier 7-6, 6-1, 7-6 and John Millman 6-4, 6-4, 6-0. He also had everything under control in his 3rd round match against Radu Albot at 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. The class of 2021, however, is not yet fully back.

That also shows in 20 double faults. He himself announced: I have to play better in the round of 16! Denis Shapovalov, the number 14 in the world, is waiting for him. This will be the first time the Canadian will play a round of 16 match at the AO, but everyone still remembers his semifinal at Wimbledon 2021.

Against Laslo Djere and Reilly Opelka, Shapovalov progressed in four sets, but against Korean Kwon Soon-woo he actually had to go the full distance! Aces and double faults, the Canadian can do both equally well. With odds of 4.50 to 1.20, he is the clear underdog.

Our Expert Tip: Over 36.5 Games

Australian Open today 23.01: Pablo Carreno Busta – Matteo Berrettini (10:15am)

Each four sets against the Americans Brandon Nakashima and Stefan Kozlov, that alone cost Matteo Berrettini enough energy. In the 3rd round, however, he had to deal with Carlos Alcaraz. He squandered a 2:0, had to go into the decisive fifth set and won it in a tiebreak.

The Italian had to toil for hours, now Pablo Carreno Busta is waiting. The 30-year-old also has a lot of hard sets in his bones. Example: Five against Tallon Griekspoor in the 2nd round!

Sebastian Korda also demanded everything from him but Carreno Busta secured his place in the last 16 by 6-4, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3. He made the last 16 in Melbourne once before in 2018 and 2019, but lost both to Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori. Ranked sixth and ninth, both were top-seeded then, just as Matteo Berrettini is now.

Berrettini has to make more of his break chances in his round of 16 match. He could have broken 35 times in three rounds, but only managed to do so twelve times. In the premiere duel with Carreno Busta he is ahead with 1.40 to 2.85.

Our Expert Tip: Over 37.5 Games

Australian Open today 23.01: Adrian Mannarino – Rafael Nadal (04:00)

At the ripe old age of 33, making the last 16 at the Australian Open for the first time and now facing the 20-time Grand Slam winner? Adrian Mannarinno has nothing to lose against Rafael Nadal.

As the world number 69, he is of course the clear underdog and has odds of around 11.00 on him. But be careful: Whoever beats Hubert Hurkacz in three sets should not be underestimated. James Duckworth and Aslan Karatsev also lost to the Frenchman.

2016 and 2019 he has met Rafael Nadal before, losing both matches in two sets. The Spaniard only had to tremble briefly in his 3rd round match against Karen Khachanov, winning 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, having earlier beaten Yannick Hanfmann and Marcos Giron clearly.

Khachanov managed a single break, the other two opponents none at all. Nadal could win his 21st Grand Slam title in Melbourne and would thus take the top spot. If he wins against Mannarino, Alex Zverev could be waiting!

Our Expert Tip: Under 32.5 Games

Australian Open today 23.01: Barbora Krejcikova – Victoria Azarenka (02:15)

Can the fourth best player in the world play her way into the quarter-finals? Barbora Krejcikova wants to show that the French Open title won’t be her only one. She had easily won against Andrea Petkovic and Xiyu Wang in two sets.

Jelena Ostapenko then demanded everything of her, but the Czech ended up with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. After two second-round exits, it is the first time ever that she has reached the last 16 Down Under in her third appearance.

In 2020, she lost in three sets to her upcoming opponent: Victoria Azarenka. The 32-year-old has already won the AO twice, reaching the top in 2012 and 2013. She has shown impeccable performances so far without losing a set.

You can still expect that against Panna Udvardy and Jil Teichmann, but a 6-0, 6-2 against Elina Svitolina is already enormously strong. The Belarusian has dropped just nine games in her three matches!

Our Expert Tip: Win Azarenka

Australian Open today 23.01.: Ashleigh Barty – Amanda Anisimova (09:00 a.m.)

Will the big favourite get through the Australian Open without losing a set? So far, it looks like Ashleigh Barty is on course for another title. She has reached at least the quarter-finals three times in a row in Melbourne, but she has yet to reach a final.

Lessja Zurenko, Lucia Bronzetti and Camilla Giorgi have been no match for her so far, she gave up just eight games to her three opponents. In the 3rd round, a sensational 93% of her first serve was successfully over the net.

With Amanda Anisimova she gets a young opponent who is in top form again. Three years ago she was in the last 16 of the AO, and in the semi-finals of the 2019 French Open she lost to Barty 7-6, 3-6, 3-6.

This time she’s the clear underdog again, as evidenced by odds of 1.20 to 4.30. But beware: Anisimova first beat Belinda Bencic outright in two sets, then threw out Naomi Osaka 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 and came back from behind!

Our Expert Tip: Cilic to win the set
